Merging Grid with Shapefile

Dear All,

I have a shapefile with the location of the schools of Honduras. For my research, it is crucial to know not only the latitude and longitud but also de elevation of the schools. I understand that the way to do this is to download the grid files for elevation and merge them with the shapefile with the dots of school. I have tried "point to point" but it gives me an error. Any idea on how to go about this?
