Import shapefile from tab-delimited text file

Hmmm...this doesn't work for me at all.

DIVA-GIS 7.1.6
running on Mac OSX 10.5.8

the file seems to need an extra tab at the end - otherwise the 2nd record's first field just appends onto the last field of the first record...

after adding the tab...
when I use it, it only recognizes one record (out of hundreds in the file)

it also crashes erratically and unpredictably, which I know doesn't say much but maybe you can just keep trying to use it and see if crashes for you...

tab delimited on mac

Strange, perhaps something about the 'tab' character on a mac that is different under windows. Can you try another delimiter? comma, semicolon, ...

use csv Microsoft Windows

use csv Microsoft Windows comma separation and then it works ,-)

Hi, I have the same problem

Hi,
I have the same problem (I am a Mac user too). However, even though I tried with a csv file, it didn't help, I still have 1 row and n columns in the shapefile. Would you have any additional suggestion? Thanks a lot!
